1. Definitions
"BNLF" refers to the British Nigeria Law Forum.
"Member" refers to any individual accepted into BNLF under the terms of membership.
"Directory" means the online BNLF Members' Directory.
"Website" refers to www.bnlf.org.uk or any affiliated domain managed by BNLF.
2. Membership Categories and Eligibility
2.1 Ordinary Membership
Open to qualified legal professionals practising in the United Kingdom or Nigeria, including solicitors, barristers, in-house counsel, legal academics, and judicial officers.
2.2 Associate Membership
Open to individuals with a demonstrable interest in BNLF's objectives but who are not practising lawyers. This includes legal academics, foreign-qualified lawyers, policy professionals, consultants, and aligned professionals.
2.3 Aspiring Lawyer Membership
Open to students and individuals undertaking legal training (e.g. LLB, LPC, BPTC, SQE, pupillage, training contract) who intend to qualify as lawyers in the UK or Nigeria.
All applications are subject to approval by BNLF. BNLF may request proof of qualifications or career stage before confirming membership.
3. Membership Term, Renewal, and Fees
3.1 Term and Renewal
Membership is valid for twelve (12) months from the date of joining and automatically renews on the anniversary of that date.
3.2 Renewal Notification
Members will receive an email notification at least seven (7) days prior to automatic renewal. The email will include the renewal fee and instructions on how to cancel.
3.3 Cancellation and Refunds
You may cancel your membership prior to the renewal date. Once renewal has taken place, no refunds will be issued. No refunds are available for the membership fee upon joining or during the membership term.
4. Members' Directory
4.1 Eligibility and Listing
Only current members may be listed in the BNLF online Members' Directory. Inclusion is at BNLF's sole discretion and not guaranteed by virtue of membership.
4.2 Submission and Review
Information submitted for listing will be reviewed. BNLF may accept, reject, or remove any entry without notice or obligation to provide reasons.
4.3 Professional Responsibility
By submitting professional information (e.g., practice area or title), you warrant its accuracy and agree to provide verification upon request. BNLF assumes no liability for misrepresented qualifications but may remove any entries it deems misleading or unsubstantiated.
4.4 Contact and Communication
You must maintain a valid email address. Undeliverable notices may result in suspension or removal from the Directory. Opting out of communications may affect your ability to remain listed.
5. Use of the Directory
The Directory is provided for informational and networking purposes only. Listings do not constitute endorsements or recommendations by BNLF.
BNLF, its officers, affiliates, or members are not liable for any reliance placed on the information within the Directory or for the conduct of any individual listed. Users should carry out their own verification.
Unauthorised use of Directory data for marketing, data harvesting, or solicitation is strictly prohibited.
6. Conduct and Removal
BNLF reserves the right to suspend or terminate any membership or directory listing if:
False or misleading information is provided
Conduct is deemed prejudicial to BNLF's reputation or objectives
The member breaches these terms or any related BNLF policies
7. Data Protection and Privacy
Personal data is collected, processed and stored in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available on the BNLF website. Members consent to the use of their data for administration, event management, communications, and directory listing, as applicable.
8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
BNLF does not guarantee the accuracy or availability of the Website or Directory. All use is at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BNLF excludes all liability for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from use of the Website or Directory.
9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
