Objectives of BNLF

• To improve relations, understanding and mutual collaboration between the legal professions in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
  
  
• To develop legal, business and cultural links with Nigeria and to exchange ideas and information.
  
  
• To assist with training and education of Nigerian lawyers and law students in the United Kingdom and vice versa and
  
  
• To arrange conferences and other events on specific areas of law of mutual interest.

Architecture of change – new SRA Handbook
The SRA are taking the first major step in the implementation of outcomes-focused regulation, through the development of an SRA handbook of regulations. You can contribute your views to this, see the BNLF SRA page for further information. Deadline is 20 August 2010.

The BNLF Careers Event which took place on Wednesday 30 June 2010 at the offices of EAPD who sponsored the event was a great success and was attended by nearly 40 delegates, most of whom were students. The speakers, chaired by BNLF vice-chair Remi Aiyela, were Segun Osuntokun, Partner at Berwin Leighton Paisner; Michelle Egbosimba – Solicitor at Ashurst; Kweku Aggrey Orleans – Barrister at 12 Kings Bench Walk and Ajita Shah, Trainee Solicitor at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge UK LLP. They each gave their own perspectives on how they achieved their goals and this was followed by a lively question and answer session. There was then an opportunity for the delegates to network and talk to the speakers indivudually. Click here to view photos from the event.

DIARY DATES

BNLF Informal Networking - The next networking meeting is taking place in London on Wednesday 8 September 2010, 6.30pm onwards. Venue is the Brookes Brothers Wine Bar & Restaurant, 33-35 Brooke Street, London EC1 2NS (Brooke Street is off High Holborn. Nearest tube station is Chancery Lane (Exit 2). Brooke Street is the immediate left turn, just after Barclays Bank. The bar is located on the left hand side and is signposted.). PLEASE NOTE that there will be NO networking meeting in August 2010 due to summer holidays, there will be a networking meeting on Wednesday 8 September 2010.

The 2010 BNLF Gala Dinner will take place on Saturday 30 October 2010 at the Holiday in Kensington London, make sure you put this date in your diary. Tickets and cost will be posted soon.
